† The "BCP" (for "The Book of Common Prayer") has been the traditional book of Anglican worship since its first drafts were penned by Thomas Cranmer over 400 years ago. The Canadian Book of Common Prayer has been revised a number of times since then, but maintains its basic shape and theology, and retains much of the Elizabethan English of the original.

‡ The "BAS" (for "Book of Alternative Services") is the main prayer book in use in Canadian Anglican churches today. It represents the Anglican church's turn back to the Christian sacraments, and draws from early Christian worship (for example, "Eucharistic Prayer Two" is a prayer of Hippolytus, said to be a disciple of the disciple of John the Apostle).
